Presenter: Melita Ryan

This workshop will explore the developing role for therapists to work in extended scope positions and what this means for expansion of our professional capabilities as hand and upper limb therapists. The creation of Extended Scope Practitioners in the UK has provided some examples on how this can be achieved and assist in achieving this in Australia. The workshop will address: 1. What is happening in the UK and around the world 2. What the ESP role looks like 3. Looking into the pros and cons for similar roles for hand therapists in the context of Australian healthcare. Participants will discuss guidelines for ESP roles, basic job descriptors and competencies, and how to differentiate this from a senior hand therapist role. Participants will contribute to discussion and brainstorming for how we move forward with the ESP role.
