Workshops
Presenter: Tracy Fairplay
This will be an interactive and discursive workshop where participants will be able to understand, discriminate, and consolidate the principles, skills, and techniques of wrist neuroproprioceptive exercises used in the global treatment of wrist instability or after wrist ligament reconstruction surgery. Specific aspects of the workshop will address: The correct timing for splinting and articular mobilization in order to respect the physiological cellular healing time of the neo-sutured ligament and bone repair, while preventing the onset of articular rigidity Mobilization techniques used to re-establish functional articular range of motion (in all its planes of movement) while maintaining joint stability Exercises aimed at re-establishing functional gross and fine motor grasping strength without provoking wrist instability due to overstretching of the reconstructed ligament or interrupting bone consolidation or healing Specific exercises for re-establishing functional wrist proprioception and coordination of movement as it relates to sensorimotor and neuromuscular joint stability by improving wrist muscle reactive muscle activation time. At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will have a broader and more secure comprehension of how, when, and where to apply their knowledge in their clinical practice.
