Workshops
Presenter: Vicky Allbrook & Stuart Wilson
Management of fixed flexion deformities of the PIPJ is one of the most challenging aspects of clinical practice. Research supports the benefits of early application of mobilising orthoses. However, the complexity and time associated with the fabrication of such orthoses, often causes therapists to reach for a prefabricated version. Vicky and Stuart plan to demystify and simplify the fabrication of a dynamic PIPJ extension orthoses (Capener). Orthosis design principles and the science of mobilising orthoses will be briefly discussed. However, the purpose of this workshop is for participants to walk away with confidence they can fabricate their own “Capener” orthosis that not only adheres to engineering principles but satisfies aesthetic needs and can be completed in a timely manner. This workshop would benefit novice and intermediate “splint makers”.
